In December 2020 two women filed a class-action lawsuit against the well-known hair care product brand TRESemmé. The news blew up on social media platforms like TikTok over the past week thanks to a wave of videos focusing on the class action lawsuit filed against Tresemmé in November. Two class action lawsuits have been filed against Unilever the manufacturer of TRESemme hair care products for failing to warn its consumers about a dangerous chemical found in the products.
TRESemme contains a preservative called DMDM hydantoin which creates toxic formaldehyde when it comes into contact with water.
In late 2020 a consumer in Illinois filed a class action lawsuit against Unilever alleging the company violated various laws in its use of a particular ingredient in TRESemmé shampoos. The lawsuit is based around the inclusion of DMDM hydantoin in the brands Keratin Smooth Color Shampoo and the hair loss that according to the suit over 100 people saw.
